Youths beaten by Arsenal

West Ham United's Under-18 side suffered only their second defeat of the campaign on Saturday morning, as they went down 2-0 to table-toppers Arsenal.

Tony Carr's young side had won nine of their opening 10 matches prior to today - a record only bettered by their north London rivals and Chelsea - but slipped to defeat after failing to find the net for the first time in a game this season.

Hammers were dealt a blow as early as the second minute, when a defensive mix-up between Joe Widdowson and Bondz Ngala gifted Arsenal an opener and, despite seeing Jack Jeffery, Ben Hunt and Jack Collison come close to grabbing an equaliser, the breakthrough didn't arrive before half-time.

Midway through the second half, the visitors added a killer second goal and, despite putting up a strong fight, Hammers couldn't find a way past their stronger and more experienced opponents.

Hammers: Blackmore; O'Neill (Miller 70), Spence, Ngala, Widdowson; Stanislas (Bowes 55), Hales, Collison, Fitzgerald; Hunt, Jeffery (Sears 70). Subs unused: Harvey.
