"Mattie has been an important player for us all season and he has been on fire recently," says Adam who, since joining the club, has seen Mattie's talents at first hand.
"It was unfortunate what happened and hopefully he will be back in the team as soon as possible because we need him."
Stephen Wright's challenge which put him out of the game against Sunderland incensed several of the players and Adam says:
"From what I saw it was over the ball a little bit but it is one of those things that happens in the game that you hope doesn't happen to you.
"The lads weren't happy with it at all and neither were we on the bench but the referee is on the pitch and he has to make the decisions.
"If we start taking the law into our own hands we will be off the pitch so you have to be sensible about it.
"But it was a tricky challenge, that's all I would say about it."
As for the game overall, he adds:
"We didn't defend the punt into the box well and their guy up front Kyle that they used a lot with long balls got there.
"We handled it until that particular one and once they got the goal their backs were up and we couldn't get back in the game.
"There were a couple of opportunities for us but it wasn't to be."
