David James says he was encouraged by the performance against Spurs - and hopes the luck changes soon.
"It is encouraging; the overall performance wasn't that bad and even with 10 men we got back into the game and looked like we had everyone on the field," he says.
"The focus is on sorting things out against Manchester City - but we mustn't think we played badly at White Hart Lane.
"We created a few half chances against West Brom but we looked a lot better against Spurs, though it was frustrating to have lost.
"It was an entertaining second half, with five goals, but not good for us."
Of the winning goal he says:
"I don't know if the original shot was going on target but the deflection has put it right inside the corner."
And of Teddy Sheringham's all-important second goal for Spurs' from the penalty spot, he adds:
"For the penalty I dived the right way, but not far enough; for the decision leading up to it I was watching the ball and surprised at the time a penalty was given because I didn't see anything happen."
The Hammers, having already lost two games at home, are trying to get things back to the way they were last season when Upton Park, to use the cliche, was something of a fortress.
"We actually lost three games last season - so we have still got one to play with..." he says.
