The story circulating on Wednesday afternoon said that a deal was being pushed through, but Paul says:
"We have made our position quite clear regarding Fredi; we are not looking to sell him, we have not had contact from Liverpool regarding him, and nor do we wish to.
"The rumour is absolute nonsense."
Glenn Roeder recently reiterated that he was not looking to sell any of his major stars, and, without naming any club in particular, expressed the opinion that some big clubs like to unsettle players by encouraging such stories to appear.
Fredi himself has had no direct contact with Liverpool, despite reports to the contrary, and he has three more years on his contract.
With Liverpool giving up the chase for Nicolas Anelka this week, rumours regarding Fredi going there were inevitable.
