With Jermain Defoe coming of age in the last campaign, and England assistant manager Tord Grip stating that he is going to be in mind for promotion to the full England squad, it is clear that the young striker is unlikely to be kicking his heels on the bench too much in the next nine months.
But Fredi believes there is a place for him and Paolo Di Canio to complement his own game, and says: "It is very good to play with Jermain because I think we are complete together. We don't do the same thing, and we are different so it can be a very good partnership.
"He knows my game and that every time I have got the ball I try to find him and set him up for a good turn or something.
"But I enjoy playing with Paolo as well, and I think we are three players who can play together; there are many choices for the coach.
"It is exciting for the fans and us too, but we have to really work together to make the partnership better and better."
Fredi, whose season was beset by groin problems last time around, says: "It is all right - it is coming back. I am trying to build up my shape little by little, and it was good to have a good rest."
Fredi knows expectancy is high for the upcoming campaign, and he says: "We put the level higher, so we have to maintain this way, and it is going to be harder.
"But we have good players, the same as last year, and we can build up a team properly and have a great season.
"We will hopefully qualify for Europe - we have to this year."
