Paolo's Problem

Paolo Di Canio says he could be out of action for at least a fortnight after sustaining a knee injury in the 1-0 defeat against Southampton on Monday night.

That exacerbates the Hammers' injury problems with Fredi Kanoute still needing at least a week of recovery after his set back preceding the Southampton game on Monday which ruled him out of first team action.

Says Paolo: "We will see how it is in the morning; I don't think it is a nice injury but I tried to play 90 minutes with it."

That Paolo tried to play through the pain is testament to his commitment, and he adds: "I couldn't run properly, even though I tried, but it wasn't like the first 10 minutes when I created chances, and I ended up in agony for 70 minutes or so.

"Unfortunately, after starting very well after two or three minutes of dribbling I felt something inside, but you want to stay on the pitch.

"The doctor said to me at half time that it is better if I stay out, but I said I wanted to play on and give what I can, but I couldn't run, or challenge for the ball, and now we will see what it is.

"I don't think it is an incredible injury, though what I feel it is two or three weeks minimum, even if I don't need an operation."
