After scoring on his EFL debut for Luton Town at Bradford City last weekend, Gideon Kodua earned his first start for the Hatters in a 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic which has moved them into the League One Play-Off places after four games.
Playing at wing-back, Kodua contributed to the Hatters’ third clean sheet with some really important defensive stops as Northern Ireland international George Saville’s first goal for the club was enough for Luton to secure back-to-back 1-0 home wins.

Although it is still early days in League One, Michael Forbes’ Northampton Town slipped to their third league defeat of the season which sees them occupy one of the four relegation places. Forbes’ goal on the opening day against Wigan Athletic still remains the only one the Cobblers have scored in all competitions this season.
On a more positive note however, Forbes has now played every minute in their opening four games, encouraging signs for a player whose 2024/25 season was largely affected by injury.
In the National League, Mason Terry’s Braintree Town once again finished the game with ten men as the goalkeeper's namesake Frankie Terry was sent off in the closing stages of their 2-1 defeat at Boreham Wood.
Braintree conceded a third penalty in as many games, but Terry was unable to keep out Luke Norris's 31st-minute spot-kick
Although Boreham Wood's goal was cancelled out by a 25-yard strike from Marley Marshall on the stroke of half-time, there was little stopper Terry could do about Boreham Wood’s second go-ahead goal from a cross when Norris completed his brace from close range.
Despite the Essex outfit’s dominance in the second half, defender Terry’s second yellow card with ten minutes left all but sealed the result for the home side.
Finally, in the EFL Championship, captain Ben Cabango and the experienced Cameron Burgess started over Kaelan Casey as the centre-back pairing for Swansea City’s first league win of the campaign, a 1-0 victory at home to Sheffield United, with the West Ham loanee remaining on the substitutes' bench at the Swansea.com Stadium.
