For the most part, it is for the better, though Glenn does say: "Joe's hair seems to have changed and there will be a few mums getting pestered by their children for the same cut!
"But I have got to say that I have noticed a change in both Joe and Trevor Sinclair. When they came back to training, the whole staff sensed straight away that with them being away working with the best players in England over a period of six or seven weeks day in, day out, it had had an effect.
"It gives me great confidence, looking forward to next season, about those two players, that we will see good campaigns from them.
"But we have other young players like Jermain Defoe and Michael Carrick who I would like to think will have better seasons than last year.
"Each season should see them improving - which will be to our benefit.
"Michael was very unfortunate not to have had an opportunity to get into the World Cup squad, and that was denied him simply because he had six weeks off with a double hernia at the start of the year.
"But, make no mistake about it, Michael is of the highest quality, and lots of people know that as well.
"As for young Defoe, he got 14 goals last year from a season spent mostly coming off the bench, and I would have thought this year he is going to be making more starts.
"He is certainly going to be wanting to and there comes a time when you mustn't hold him back. I did so last year for the right reasons and would like to think with the number of goals he scored it proved to be the right thing to do.
"What I mustn't do is restrict him when he is ready to go."
