Knee injuries have kept him out of first team action all campaign, and he admits:
"It's been a long long season, and mine will be starting as everyone else finishes but it will be nice to be involved in the first team again."
Glenn Roeder has confirmed he will be in action at the Riverside in the final match of the season.
Would he consider a loan spell, perhaps in Scandinavia, where he could play through the summer?
Perhaps not, as he is getting married...
"Unless she wants to do it in Norway, but I don't think she'd be too happy!" he says.
"But playing will be a big boost because touch wood it will put all the problems behind me.
"I'll come back early in preseason and hope that everything is pretty much behind me; the problem is that when you have been out so long you get a lot of niggles.
"I've played a few reserve games now and I'm feeling good so if I can get involved I'm looking forward to it.
"We're going up there for the win obviously, as we don't want to slip lower.
"We'll see if I can run around as much as Nigel
Winterburn though!"
As for the departure of Harry Redknapp, he says:
"We'll have to watch this space, work hard and see what happens - and hopefully come back for pre season really buzzing.
"No one had read the script that it would happen: it was a complete shock.
"We'll just have to wait and see what happens."
