Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history...

Billy Bonds' West Ham United were on the way towards promotion back to the top flight when we defeated Charlton Athletic on this day in 1990.

Following a strong start to the Second Division campaign, the Irons welcomed Charlton over the Thames sat third in the table.

Martin Allen's double ensured we would move up to second, with a long-range strike and a calm one-on-one finish ensuring Alex Dyer's reply was just a consolation.

Second place was where we would end the campaign too, earning that place in Division One as runners-up to Oldham Athletic.
