Physio To Depart

Physio John Fearn is set to leave West Ham this summer - probably to join Reading.

John, who has been at Upton Park for four years, says:

"Harry was very keen for Simon Webster to come and, even though he has left, Simon will be doing my job next year, and I'll be moving on.

"Reading is the favourite, it looks as if I'm going there in a number one capacity; I also have an interview at Fulham but that is a number two job as it was here.

"West Ham is my club, but it is a good career move, and I just want to develop now and be a number one.

"I will be very sad to leave as West Ham is my club; I spent my youthful years watching the Hammers.

John Green has been very good to work with but I'm sure we'll keep in touch so it's not doom and gloom, and I'm looking forward to it."

Simon, of course, is a former Hammers centre half whose career was cut short by injury caused after a collision with Julian Dicks in training.

He recently qualified as a physio.

So, telling us about West Ham's injuries for the last time, he says:

"Ian Pearce is out; he was borderline, he is OK if he doesn't head the ball but that is a prerequisite of the job!"

Ian, of course, suffered concussion after a collision with Rigobert Song at Manchester City.

Of the other injuries, John says:

"Gary Charles has got some achilles tendonitis and Paul Kitson has had a torn hamstring; they are OK to train but not play in the Premiership.

"Frank Lampard is building up his fitness after his operation and has a very good chance of making it for the England squad if he is included.

"John Moncur still has a tender bone bruise so he can't play.

"Titi Camara is seeing a consultant today following his arthroposcopy but it is still early days for him before he does any impact work.

"Trevor Sinclair looks very positive for the new season; Igor Stimac is quite stiff and sore with his back from the last home game so he is out.

"And the youngsters Richard Garcia and Izzie Iriekpen are planning for the new season, as is Steve Lomas, while Paolo is of course recuperating in Italy.

"I haven't seen Davor Suker at all!"

With the first team travelling to Middlesbrough on Friday, while there is also a reserve team game against Charlton, it is likely to be a young team who face the Addicks.

Shaun Byrne and Scott Minto are travelling with the first team.

Tom Williams and Craig Etherington are doubts for the reserves.
