"A lot of people are down because of the events of the last few days - myself included," he admits. "Hopefully we can put a smile on everybody's faces on Saturday with a win."
It was Harry Redknapp's power of persuasion that helped Christian decide to join in the aftermath of Rio Ferdinand's departure, and he says: "It's strange because I have not managed to speak to Harry yet, and what has happened is disappointing, so I'll be looking forward to speaking to him.
"But there's another week and another game to get through and, as a player, there is nothing you can do about these decisions that are made above you.
"It's the same for everybody - you just keep going and that's it."
Christian turned down offers from Everton, who subsequently turned their attentions to Steve Lomas, and Leicester City.
Both clubs, despite being closer to his home near Blackburn, were overlooked after a careful period of reflection and discussions with his family, in favour of the Hammers.
Christian said at the time that he was sacrificing the geography for the football, convinced that Upton Park offered him a greater opportunity for success.
As he has not yet permanently moved his young family south - he is due to do that in the summer - he is obviously anxious to know what plans Harry's successor may have for him.
He is looking to be part of a more settled team and explains: "It's been a difficult season for everyone at West Ham and I've never known so many changes in a team with injuries and suspensions.
"I think we need to get more of a stable side together and hopefully keep everyone fit. I've played different positions which hasn't been easy, but we're all in it together and hopefully we can build on it for next season.
"I'm a strong character and I intend to get through this."
