Airidas Golambeckis

Academy Internationals | Golambeckis helps England U19s to victory and clean sheet against Ukraine

West Ham United U21s captain Airidas Golambeckis made his England U19s bow in a 2-0 victory over Ukraine on Wednesday.

Almost a year on from scoring his first goal for the Young Lions, incidentally in an U18s fixture against Ukraine’s U19s side, Golambeckis replaced England captain Harrison Armstrong - who is currently on loan at Preston North End from Everton - on 69 minutes as part of an eight-man substitution from lead coach Will Antwi.

The damage had already been done by that point, with a first-half goal from former West Ham United Academy starlet Divine Mukasa of Manchester City being followed by an excellent strike from Chelsea’s Shim Mheuka just after the hour mark.

Anchoring the defence alongside Tottenham Hotspur’s Callum Olusesi, Golambeckis and his U19s teammates comfortably saw out victory in their opening game of their Marbella training camp.

Next up for Antwi’s side will be hosts Spain, who they face on Saturday 6 September at 10am BST.
