Almost a year on from his last international appearance, West Ham United Academy defender Michael Forbes has been recalled to the Northern Ireland U21s squad.
A hamstring injury in March had seen him miss out on Northern Ireland U21s’ last training camp in Türkiye where they faced Moldova, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
Now on loan at League One side Northampton Town, where he has played the full 90 minutes in all but one of their opening games, scoring on his debut, Forbes will join Tommy Wright’s squad for a training camp in Loughborough in England before heading to Georgia to kick off their U21 Euro qualifying campaign in Group F on Tuesday 9 September.

Forbes has already made his senior debut for his country, back in November 2023, when he made a substitute appearance in a Euro qualifying defeat to Finland, and will therefore be taking on a more senior role when representing his country in the U21 Euro qualifiers.
Also joining Northern Ireland and Georgia in Group F are Germany, Greece, Latvia and Malta.
