On This Day: Four-midable Hammers shine in Europe

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, presented by Heineken...

West Ham United gave another memorable European performance on this date in the calendar 41 years ago, smashing four goals past Romanian side Politehnica Timisoara in the European Cup Winners' Cup.

A Ray Stewart penalty, plus strikes from Billy Bonds, Paul Goddard and David Cross put the Hammers in full control of their second round tie in front of 27,157 at the Boleyn Ground.

A 1-0 defeat in the second leg in Romania would count for little after this dominant display in east London.
