On This Day: Michail Antonio stuns Spurs at new stadium

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with RoadX Tyres...

Michail Antonio was the hero as West Ham United became the first team to score and win at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on this day in 2019!

Prior to West Ham's visit to N17, Spurs had won all four of their matches at their new home, scoring eight goals without reply, but that record would end in stunning style.

Having battled superbly, the only goal of the game came on 67 minutes. Marko Arnautovic's cross was brilliantly chested down by Antonio, before the No30 smashed past Hugo Lloris with an accurate right-foot finish.

Antonio celebrated with the Claret and Blue Army in typically outlandish style by dancing along the touchline.

“The goal is a blur for me right now!” he recalled. “Even on the day, I had to watch it back to realise what had actually happened. I was trying to explain it to someone afterwards, but when I watched it back, it was just completely different to what I’d described.

“All I remember now is Dec [Rice] running with the ball and finding Marko [Arnautovic]. I dropped a shoulder and ran in behind, and Marko found me with an amazing ball. It hit me straight on the chest, and I just hit it into the far corner.”

West Ham would finish the 2018/19 season tenth in the Premier League under manager Manuel Pellegrini, with Antonio scoring seven goals in all competitions - but none more memorable than the day he stunned Spurs!
