On This Day: Robson and Best share five goals in Sheffield United thrashing

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with RoadX Tyres...

Pop Robson netted his first West Ham United hat-trick as the Irons thrashed Sheffield United 5-0 in the League Cuip fifth round on this day in 1971.

The centre-forward, who had signed from Newcastle United in February of that year, scored a perfect treble - header, left-foot shot, right-foot shot - to blunt the Blades at the Boleyn Ground.

Robson scored the opening two goals before Clyde Best made it 3-0 before half-time. The Bermudan grabbed the fourth before Robson completed his hat-trick three minutes from full-time.

The Hammers would go on to face Stoke City in the semi-finals, drawing 2-2 on aggregate before losing 3-2 in a pulsating second replay at Old Trafford in January 1972.
