West Ham United women’s team v Leicester City
Barclays Women's Super League, Chigwell Construction Stadium, Sunday 9 November 2025, 12noon GMT

Three successive matches at Chigwell Construction Stadium await West Ham United women’s team, and the first is a Barclays Women’s Super League test against Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.

Looking to record our first league win of the season, the Hammers will take confidence from the performance at second-place Manchester City last time out, which saw Rehanne Skinner’s side cause the hosts plenty of problems, particularly in front of goal in the first half.

Our form in east London was record-breaking last term and following a Subway® Women's League Cup success against Brighton in Dagenham, the Irons want to find those home comforts in the league again, starting with the visit of the tenth-place Foxes, who are now under the stewardship of our former assistant manager Rick Passmoor.

Here’s everything you need to know about the encounter…

Opposition...

Leicester City arrive at Chigwell Construction Stadium with one Barclays Women’s Super League victory to their name this season, having most recently suffered a 4-1 loss at home to Arsenal.

The Gunners took a three-goal lead into half-time at King Power Stadium after Alessia Russo’s opener was followed up by a Sari Kees own-goal and a sweeping Stina Blackstenius finish. The Sweden international then notched her second a minute after Noemie Mouchon reduced the arrears.

However, the loss against the Gunners was their first defeat in four matches in all competitions after they followed up a pair of draws, against Everton and Aston Villa, with a 1-0 success away at London City Lionesses in the Subway® Women's League Cup.

Leicester also picked up a victory against Ipswich Town to sit three points clear at the summit of the Group D Women’s League Cup standings, which followed a 1-0 success over Liverpool in the WSL.

It was a summer of change for the Foxes, who parted ways with Amandine Miquel after one season in charge. The French manager finished tenth with Leicester last term and was replaced by former Hammers assistant manager Passmoor, who joined on an interim basis before he signed a three-year deal in October.

Passmoor joined West Ham in September 2023 as part of Rehanne Skinner’s coaching staff. Following an eleventh-place WSL finish in 2023/24, he helped the Irons to a ninth-place finish last season as we set multiple Club records in the WSL, including the most points and most wins at home in a single season in the competition.

A player with Scunthorpe United in the mid-1980s, Passmoor took up the twin roles as Head of Community, Coach Education, Centre of Excellence and Player Recruitment and men’s U18s assistant manager with the Iron in 1990, and remained with the club until 1999.

In 2000, he moved to Leeds United as men’s Senior Academy Coach before he was appointed manager of the club’s women’s team. The following season, 2007/08, his Whites team reached the Women’s FA Cup final, losing to Arsenal, and finished third in the FA Women's Premier League. Then, in 2009/10, he won the FA League Cup and was named FA Manager of the Year.

After a season as manager of FA WSL side Lincoln, the club transferred its licence to Notts County, and Passmoor led the Magpies to the FA Cup and FA WSL Cup finals in 2015, where they were edged out by Chelsea and Arsenal respectively.

Passmoor returned to Scunthorpe United in 2018, initially as Youth Development Manager and later as Head of Coaching and Coach Development. After four-and-a-half years, he returned to Leeds United as Women’s Manager for the 2022/23 season and won the FA Women's National League Plate.

Leicester made seven additions during the summer transfer window, including former Chelsea and Tottenham forward Rosella Ayane. The 29-year-old spent six years at the latter, scoring 12 goals in 109 appearances.

The Foxes moved domestically to capture the loan signing of Arsenal’s Cecily Wellesley-Smith, and the permanent arrivals of defender Heather Payne from Everton and former Hammers midfielder Emily van Egmond from Birmingham City.

Goalkeeper Katie Keane also arrived from Shamrock Rovers, whilst midfielders Olivia McLoughlin and Celeste Boureille signed from Rangers and Montpellier respectively.

Meanwhile, eight players departed Leicester, including long-serving defender Sophie Howard, who was part of their 2020/21 WSL 2 title-winning side and made over 100 appearances for the club over the course of five years.

Previous Meetings…

The two sides last met on the final day of the 2024/25 season, which saw West Ham United fall the wrong side of a 4-2 scoreline at King Power Stadium.

However, Skinner’s side were victorious in the reverse fixture last term, with Viviane Asseyi scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win in November 2024.

That was one of four victories we have recorded against the Foxes - the others came in May 2023 (1-2), November 2022 (1-0) and, our biggest win, September 2021 (4-0).

We are yet to suffer a defeat to the Foxes in east London, having won three of our four home meetings against them.
