West Ham United thanks supporters for UEFA Europa Conference League victory messages

West Ham United would like to place on the record the sincere thanks of everyone at the Club for the huge number of congratulatory messages that have been sent and shared on social media following the Hammers’ UEFA Europa Conference League victory over Fiorentina last week.

Special messages of support have been received directly and via online platforms from supporters, friends of the Club, the football family and fans of the game everywhere around the world, including rock stars, politicians and some of sport’s biggest names.

Joint-Chair David Sullivan said: “We have been overwhelmed and are very grateful for the positive messages of support we have received following our glorious win in the UEFA Europa Conference League final.

“We saw in Prague and during our open-top bus victory parade in east London that we have the best fans in the world.

“Everyone at the Club would once again like to thank our supporters and place on record our thanks to the football family, friends of the Club and fans of football everywhere for their heartfelt messages. It is an important reminder of the positive power of football to bring communities together in celebration.

“While we are not able to publish and respond to every message due to the sheer volume that have been received, every single one is warmly appreciated by the Club and the Hammers community.”

Messages of support from high profile figures have come all angles, including from Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, who took to social media to say: “Congratulations to @WestHam for their first major trophy win for 43 years! Proud to see a London team lifting the trophy.” In a follow up letter to Club Joint Chairman David Sullivan, he added: “Of course, the fact that your home is London Stadium on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park makes it all the sweeter victory here at City Hall. We are very proud of the club’s achievements and hope you all enjoy the celebrations.”

Mayor of Newham Rokhsana Fiaz OBE wrote: “A brilliant Europa Conference League achievement for @WestHam and David Moyes!  With this historic win over Fiorentina at the Eden Stadium in Prague tonight! The Hammers have done us! proud! COME ON YOU IRONS!!”

There was further political praise from Lucy Frazer, the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, who said: “Massive congratulations to @WestHam on their first major trophy in 43 years!”

Comedian and actor Russell Brand, a globally recognised Hammers fan, documented himself watching the game live while Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher shared his support, despite his allegiance to Manchester City, as he simply said: “Congratulations to West Ham”.

Rock band Iron Maiden were delighted posting: “Congratulations to everyone at @WestHam for winning their first European trophy in over 58 years! Steve managed to catch the end of the game and all of the celebrations after the Bergen show.”

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright said: “No better feeling than lifting a trophy. Brilliant @WestHam. Just feel so happy watching all the players and their families + the fans enjoying their moment. Great night.” Fellow former defender Rio Ferdinand, who played for the Hammers, added: “Congratulations to everyone connected to @WestHam! 58 years… Big shout out to @_DeclanRice & @Noble16Mark”.

Presenter and West Ham supporter Ben Sheppard celebrated in style with a bubble machine as he said: “This is mostly how I’ll be spending the day!!! Still can’t quite believe we did it! @WestHam #champions #Westham #bubbles." Fellow presenter and Arsenal fan Piers Morgan simply said: “Congrats @WestHam”

Ethan Payne, better known as Behzinga – a member of the British YouTube group Sidemen, said: “Still struggling to process the last 24 hours @WestHam.”

American golf star Billy Horschel, another well-known fan, was particularly vocal as he said: “Biggest news of today. WEST HAM win the Europa Conference League!!!! First trophy in 43 years! Nothing else matters right now!!! @WestHam.”

Fellow golf star Justin Rose, a Chelsea fan, was gracious in his praise saying: “Always great seeing an English club lift a trophy in Europe… Congratulations @WestHam and @_DeclanRice and the rest of the team/staff.”

Presenter and former player Gary Lineker reserved special praise for the Manager as he said: “What a night for @WestHam. Congratulations to a great club. Chuffed for them. Also delighted for David Moyes. He’s done a superb job.”

Meanwhile a particular highlight came from the cast of Eastenders who said: “A specially shot scene to celebrate a special East End moment! Congratulations @WestHam from us all at #EastEnders.”
