West Ham United has today published its annual Gender Pay Report which shows that the mean gender pay gap, when male first-team players, management and coaches are removed, is -2.1%, and for the eighth consecutive year is in favour of women.
The figure is once again more favourable than the current mean national pay gap at 5.45%. When the men’s players are included in the calculation, the Club’s mean pay gap is 89.2%.
Women make up over 30% of the whole workforce, and for the second year running, almost half of those are represented in the first two quartiles. The Club remains resolute in our ambition to have a 50:50 men / women split in our workforce by 2030 and continue to be an accredited London Living Wage employer.
The data published represents West Ham United only, as the Club employs over 250 people.
West Ham United is proud of its equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) work – and last year became the first Premier League Club to receive the Menopause Friendly Accreditation (MFA) in recognition of its high standards and proven practices that embrace menopause in the workplace.
Furthermore, as an equity leader in the Premier League, West Ham United was awarded the Advanced level of the Premier League Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Standard in October 2023, recognising the Club’s ongoing dedication and commitment to equality, equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). It is the second time West Ham United has received the award, which is the top accolade that can be achieved by Premier League clubs, having first been presented with the Advanced level in 2020.
Commenting on the report, West Ham United Vice-Chair Karren Brady, said: “Equity leadership and gender equality are core values of our work at West Ham United.
“Women are the backbone of the Club, representing more than 50 per cent of my direct reports. We remain resolute in our ambition to have a 50:50 men / women split in our workforce by 2030 and are well on track to achieve that aim.
“Our Club is fully focused on continuing to be an Equity Leader in the Premier League and we were delighted to be awarded the Advanced level of the Premier League Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Standard for a second time in October.
“We have an unwavering commitment to continue our award-winning work in this area, inspiring positive change, particularly when it comes to ensuring a fair and equal working environment.”
