West Ham United women’s team forward Viviane Asseyi won the Women’s Football Icon accolade at the Women’s Football Awards on Thursday night!
Winning the first award of the night, presented by Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts, the France international won the award for her outstanding contribution to the sport.
“I feel good,” said Asseyi, who has enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 campaign so far, having chalked up eleven goals and seven assists in all competitions.
“I’m so thankful for this award, this is important to win. In football you sometimes have to enjoy the moment and today is one of these.
“Of course, we have two games left, and we will give everything for those two games, but we will enjoy this (winning the award).
“This award is for all of my teammates because we have ups and downs, but we never give up. We have a good mentality, a winning mentality, and we give everything for the Club.”
Asseyi, who revealed the award will sit proudly at her mum’s house, was also nominated for the Player of the Year award at the event that took place in London, while 21-year-old Anouk Denton was up for Young Player of the Year.
While Chelsea’s Aggie Beever-Jones won the award, Denton was incredibly proud and appreciative to be nominated.
She said: “It’s really nice to be nominated. It’s cool to know that fans have voted for it.”
