Kinga Szemik

Szemik selected in Poland's Women's Euro 2025 squad

West Ham United women’s team goalkeeper Kinga Szemik has been named in Nina Patalon’s Poland squad to compete in this summer’s UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.

The 27-year-old will feature in what is set to be a landmark and historic occasion for her country, as they participate in their first-ever major tournament, which will be held in Switzerland, beginning on Wednesday 2 July and running until Sunday 27 July.

Poland have been drawn in Group C alongside Euro 2022 runners-up Germany, 2017 finalists Denmark and 1984 winners Sweden.

Their campaign will get underway at AFG Arena in St. Gallen against Germany (Friday 4 July, kick-off 8pm BST), who fell to an extra-time 2-1 loss against England in the final of the last edition three years ago. They will then face Sweden (Tuesday 8 July, 8pm BST) in Lucerne at Swissporarena and then Denmark (Saturday 12 July, 8pm BST), also at Swissporarena.

Shot-stopper Szemik, who played every Barclays Women’s Super League minute in her debut season in Claret and Blue last term, winning the women’s team’s fan-voted Save of the Season award in the process, was instrumental in helping her country reach their maiden major tournament.

After they finished bottom of Group A4 in the first qualifying round, Poland saw off Romania in their first play-off tie, comfortably winning 6-2 over the two legs.

Then, Szemik showed her quality in her side’s play-off second round with Austria, as she kept back-to-back clean sheets in a pair of 1-0 victories that booked Poland’s place in Switzerland in July.

Since then, the Hammers goalkeeper - who kept four WSL clean sheets last term - has gone on to help Poland achieve promotion to League A in the UEFA Women’s Nations League, keeping six clean sheets in her last eight international matches.

Everyone at West Ham United would like to congratulate Kinga on her call-up and wish her
every success at this summer’s Euros.
