Perth Hammers cannot wait to welcome West Ham United to their beautiful home city!
The Irons will arrive in the capital of Western Australia on Wednesday and spend a week there, facing A-League side Perth Glory (Saturday 15 July, 6pm AWST) and Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur (Tuesday 18 July, 6pm AWST) at the city’s 65,000-capacity Optus Stadium. Tickets for both games are on sale here!
David Moyes and his squad and Club ambassadors will also be out and about across Perth at a host of community events, civic receptions and pre-match parties and supporter meet-and-greets with former Hammers Carlton Cole and Richard Garcia.
Among those who will welcome the Irons to Australia will be members of the Perth Hammers supporters’ club, who have been backing the Irons from Down Under since 1990.
Five years later, they welcomed West Ham as part of the Club’s four-match Centenary Tour, which saw Harry Redknapp’s side play matches in Perth, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
Nowadays, Perth Hammers is run by Max Nosworthy, an expatriate supporter who emigrated from east London to Western Australia.
“Perth Hammers was formed in 1990 by Brian Riddell and Robert Clements,” he explained. “We draw a lot of interest in Western Australia, across Australia and globally from our social media channels with 2,300 members on Facebook and 2,650 on Twitter.
“We mostly meet at Crown Casino to watch the matches, but the seven-hour time difference means it’s generally a 10pm or 11pm kick-off at weekends, and as late as 4am for midweek games!
“We were over the moon and couldn't be happier that Perth was selected for the second time, it feels like a dream come true!”
West Ham will pay a visit to Nosworthy too, to view his unique collection of Claret and Blue memorabilia, which he shares on the popular twitter account @HammersMuseumPerth.
He has also got some sightseeing tips for fans travelling over land and sea to visit Perth over the coming week.
“Perth is a beautiful city to visit, with the Indian Ocean only a 15-minute drive away,” he explained. “There are great bars and restaurants and a laid-back vibe!
“While you’re here, I’d recommend visiting Rottnest Island, which is home to the quokka, Western Australia’s species of wallaby.
“Kings Park & Botanic Garden Perth, Swan Valley and Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour are also well worth a look!”
