Where to stay…
Chicago’s Downtown area, including the Magnificent Mile, The Loop, and River North, are the recommended areas to stay. These neighbourhoods offer a great introduction to the city, with convenient access to attractions, restaurants and hotels.
What to do…
As the third biggest city in the United States with a population in excess of eight million people, Chicago has plenty of attractions to keep visitors occupied.
The city’s Museum Campus is full of fantastic places to visit, including the Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum, Field Museum of Natural History, Shedd Aquarium, the Art Institute of Chicago in Grant Park and The Museum of Science and Industry.
The Magnificent Mile is home to the city’s entertainment, including bars, restaurants, shops, theatres and more.
Navy Pier is a 1km pier on the shoreline of Lake Michigan, located in the Streeterville neighbourhood, with shops, restaurants, gardens and other attractions.
For sports fans, Wrigley Field is the historic home of the Chicago Cubs baseball club.
With Lake Michigan to the east and the Chicago River running through the heart of the city, you should also take a boat tour to see Chicago from the water.

What’s happened there before…
West Ham United played at Soldier Field twice in the summer of 1963.
The first occasion was on 5 June, when the Hammers took on Italian side Mantova in the second fixture in the International Soccer League (ISL) - a competition founded by former Philadelphia Phillies baseball club owner Bill Cox to promote the sport of soccer in the United States.
Geoff Hurst scored from the penalty spot and Alan Sealey found the net, but Mantova scored a 4-2 victory.
The Hammers recovered to win three and draw one of their next four ISL matches to top their section and reach the final against Górnik Zabrze of Poland, which they won 2-1 on aggregate.
The Irons then took on Dukla Prague of Czechoslovakia in the American Challenge Cup, again over two legs. The first leg was played at Soldier Field on 7 August, with Dukla winning 1-0. A 1-1 second-leg draw in New York meant the Irons lost out on aggregate.
