Over Land and Sea to... Everton

EVERTON
Premier League, Hill Dickinson Stadium, Monday 29 September 2025, 8pm BST

West Ham United make an historic first visit to Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium for a Sky Sports Monday Night Football fixture at the end of September.

The ground, which opened in the summer with a capacity just short of 53,000, replaced Goodison Park, which had been Everton’s stadium since 1892 and is now the home of the Blues’ women’s team.

Situated in Bramley-Moore Dock on the east bank of the River Mersey, just north of Liverpool city centre, Hill Dickinson Stadium is the seventh-largest football stadium in the Premier League.

On the pitch, Everton are unbeaten and have yet to concede a competitive goal at their new ground, defeating Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League and Mansfield Town in the Carabao Cup second round and drawing with Aston Villa in the top flight.

Everton were one of the founding members of the Premier League ahead of the 1992/93 season and have never dropped out of the tier since. Much of their relative success has occurred under the management of former Hammers boss David Moyes, who returned for a second spell in charge in January 2025.

Liverpool is a great destination city, so supporters will be delighted by the opportunity to make a weekend away ahead of this fixture.

How to get there...

If you are taking the train up from London on the Monday, direct services leave Euston at .43  past the hour, arriving at Liverpool Lime Street about two hours and 20 minutes later.

Lime Street station is situated just over two miles from Hill Dickinson Stadium. You can walk it in about 45 minutes. Alternatively, get to St Nicholas Place and take the No2 bus to Wellington Dock and walk five minutes from there. Or you can take the Merseyrail from Lime Street towards Southport and get off at Sandhills, from where it is still a 25-minute walk.

You can take a taxi from the rank at the station, too, with the drive taking about ten minutes.

There is no train back to London late enough on the Monday night, so you will likely need to stay overnight in Liverpool. On Tuesday morning, direct trains depart Lime Street for Euston at .08 and .43 past the hour.

For those who wish to drive, supporters are advised that road closures and parking restrictions will be in place around the stadium, so are encouraged to park in the city centre, from where park and ride buses 919 and 929 depart. You can book online. Details are available HERE.

The stadium has 100 Blue Badge spaces. Please email [email protected] for details.

Where to stay...

As one of the United Kingdom’s most popular tourist destinations, Liverpool has a wide array of different accommodation options to choose from all over the city.

There are some sensational hotels in the city centre and also around the redeveloped Albert Dock, so if you pick any hotel within that area, then you will be sorted for food and drinks, and will be able to get to and from the game with relative ease.

For those for whom price is more important than style, there are the usual well-known budget hotels within the city centre.

What to do…

There is no shortage of interesting attractions in Liverpool, such as historic buildings and things to do.

The city is known best for its football and music, most notably legendary band The Beatles, so why not fill your visit with a bit of both? You can visit The Beatles Story or British Music Experience, take a Beatles Magical Mystery Tour around the city, or even visit the childhood homes of John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

If music is not your thing, the World Museum tells the story of the Earth, the Museum of Liverpool and Mersey Maritime Museum do what you’d expect which gives plenty of information about the city’s proud history.

What’s happened there before…

This will obviously be West Ham United’s first-ever visit to Hill Dickinson Stadium, but we were regulars at Everton’s former Goodison Park home.

We have lost just two of our previous seven Premier League fixtures at Everton, with four wins, two defeats and a 1-1 draw in our most-recent visit in March 2025.

Prior to that, Andriy Yarmolenko inspired the Hammers to a 3-1 victory in September 2018, before a 1-0 success on New Year’s Day 2021, courtesy of Tomáš Souček’s goal. Angelo Ogbonna’s glancing header did the business in October 2021, before second-half goals from Kurt Zouma, Souček and Edson Álvarez secured a thrilling come-from-behind 3-1 victory in March 2024.

West Ham’s biggest-ever top-flight win at Everton was a 4-0 First Division victory at Goodison Park way back on 10 April 1929, when Vivian Gibbins helped himself to a hat-trick.
