Nevers: It was a good evening and a good win

Thierry Nevers was delighted to help West Ham United U23s claim a huge 5-0 win over Derby County on Monday.

The development side closed the 2021/22 season with an impressive victory over bottom-placed Derby at London Stadium. Sonny Perkins scored twice, while Nevers also got on the score-sheet in the first half with a swivelling effort.

Andriy Yarmolenko also struck while Divin Mubama slid in West Ham’s fifth in added time.

With the Irons netting five, and keeping a clean sheet, Nevers could find little fault with the season-ending effort.

A good evening and a good win. To score five is always good. Getting a clean sheet too and it was great to score some goals.

“It was a good day,” the winger reflected to West Ham TV. “A good evening and a good win. To score five is always good. Getting a clean sheet is good too and it was great to score some goals.

“I’m always happy to score. I think I could have had more but we’ll make do with the one for this game.

“Every game is a tough game. I think we made it look okay though.”

Nevers joined the Hammers in the summer and has made 24 appearances in all competitions for the U23s this season, scoring nine goals.

The 20-year-old is happy with his own development and the U23s’ overall progression over the course of the campaign.

“This season has been better than last season,” he added. “Obviously I wasn’t here but we’ve finished second to Manchester City. We can’t argue too much with that. We’ve enjoyed it and we’ve done our best.

“I think my own season has been a bit in-and-out. I’ve had some injuries, but I think I can be happy with how I’ve performed.

"I’m happy to finish the season strong and I’m already excited to be playing football next season too.”
