Match Report | Piubel nets brace as Hammers ease past Liverpool in friendly

Liverpool 0-3 West Ham United women's team
Pre-Season Match, AXA Melwood Training Centre, Sunday 24 August 2025, 1pm BST

West Ham United women’s team secured a 3-0 victory in a behind-closed-doors friendly over fellow Barclays Women’s Super League side Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

The Hammers, who defeated Sparta Prague 1-0 earlier in August, were in red-hot form on Merseyside and whilst the hosts enjoyed a lot of the ball, it was Rehanne Skinner’s side who created the better chances.

Canada international Shelina Zadorsky went close with a header after just eight minutes played before Inès Belloumou saw a curling effort beaten away by Liverpool shot-stopper Rafaela Borggräfe.

The Reds, now under the stewardship of Gareth Taylor, then carved out their first opportunity of the contest, but Belloumou did well to block Cornelia Kapocs’ strike.

Just after the half-hour mark, the Irons’ pressure told and they took the lead through summer signing Ffion Morgan. The Wales international did well to shrug off a challenge from a defender in red before slotting home, despite Borggräfe getting a hand to the ball.

Moving into the second half and the east Londoners didn’t rest on their laurels, as Seraina Piubel notched two goals in the space of three minutes to give her side an unassailable lead. Her first came five minutes after half-time with a curling strike, having been teed up by Riko Ueki, before she capped off a flowing team move with a low finish.

Japan international Ueki was then involved at the other end of the pitch as she cleared Jenna Clark’s header off the line.

Skinner’s side will look to take the momentum gained from their victory on Merseyside into their pre-season friendly against Arsenal on Wednesday 27 August (kick-off 7pm). Get your ticket for the game by clicking HERE.
