London life, I'm a Celebrity and Beckham haircuts | Any Questions with James Ward-Prowse

Speaking to the Official Matchday Programme, James Ward-Prowse tries his luck at our random questions...

What is the best goal you have ever seen?

“I’ve been lucky enough to be on the pitch for a few special goals. One of the very top ones was for Southampton when we played against West Bromwich Albion. Sofiane Boufal collected the ball, dribbled the full length of the pitch, beat all their players and scored a pretty special goal.

“It’s become one of those iconic Premier League moments that will be shown forever in compilation videos, so I’ll say that one.”

Who was your favourite player growing up?

“My favourite player would have been David Beckham. I was a big fan of ‘Becks’ and I was always trying to copy his free-kicks and play in the same way as him.

“I even copied a few of his haircuts when I was younger. I got the mohawk because of him when I was eight or nine, and I remember my mum wasn’t too happy about it!”

What is the best thing about London?

“It’s been really interesting to explore a different place. I’ve always lived down south so it’s been great to explore a new city and see new things. London is so big so it’s going to take me some time to see everything the family and I want to go and see.”

Would you rather have hands for feet or feet for hands?

“Not that either is preferable, but I’d rather have feet for hands I think. I’d never get penalised for handball in a match then! Imagine how much more control of the ball I’d have if I had feet for hands. It would add a whole new dimension to set-plays as well.”

What is one thing in your life you cannot live without?

“I’m a massive coffee lover so I’ll say coffee. It’s part of my routine and I really enjoy a big cup of coffee. I like to get one when I’m driving in from home to training in the morning.

“I don’t drink crazy numbers, but I probably have three coffees a day.”

Would you rather be Batman, Superman or Spiderman?

“I’m going to say Spiderman. The others are cool, but I like the idea of swinging from webs between buildings and jumping across skyscrapers. I think you’d have a lot more fun, and a bit of adventure, as Spiderman.”

What was the last concert you went to?

“I went to see Chris Brown at the O2 back in January. It was a very good show and I had to stop myself from getting up and dancing. No one needs to see me embarrass myself with my dancing.”

Will there ever be a man who can swim faster than a shark?

“Nope. Never. No chance.”

How did you meet your wife?

“I was 17 years old and she was working at a shop in Southampton. I pestered her for her number and she eventually gave in and agreed to go out with me. I think it’s a nice story!”

Which reality TV show would you most like to be a contestant on?

“I’d have a go at ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’. I’ve always watched it, ever since I was a kid, and I’d fancy having a go at some of the challenges.

“Do I think I could do the eating challenge? I’d give it a good go. It’s all about the entertainment factor and having a laugh. Maybe one day, when I’m done with football, I’ll get that phone call.”

Have you ever seen a ghost?

“I’ve never seen a ghost, but I do believe in them. Should the day come when I do see a ghost I’ll come and let you know how I reacted."
