West Ham United women’s team captain Katrina Gorry has won the Barclays Women’s Super League Player Champion of Change award at the Women’s Professional Game Awards.
Our skipper, who was given the armband at the start of the season having joined the Club in January 2024, has led by example off the pitch, as well as on it.
Speaking openly on how she overcame an eating disorder, as well as having IVF to become a parent and how having children helped her rediscover her love for football, the 32-year-old has been recognised for sharing experiences from her footballing journey.
“I’m honoured to have won the Player Champion of Change award,” she said.
“I take real pride in giving back to the fans, giving back to those who have sacrificed so much for me and who have helped me to achieve everything that I have throughout my career.
“I appreciate that I’m starting to come to the end of my career now so being able to share my experiences and my journey to help others, whether it’s a family going through IVF or someone battling an eating disorder, has become hugely important to me.
“If me opening up and being vulnerable can help one other person and inspire the next generation of footballers to overcome any obstacles or challenges that they face in life, I will have done my job.”
Everyone at West Ham United would like to congratulate Katrina on winning the WSL Player Champion of Change award.
