Kamarai Swyer signs new contract

West Ham United is delighted to announce that winger Kamarai Swyer has signed a new two-year contract.

Twenty-year-old Swyer, who featured in four matchday squads and made his senior debut during our victorious UEFA Europa Conference League campaign last term, has put pen to paper on a deal until the summer of 2025.

With the Club since the age of eight, Swyer graduated from the Academy of Football to sign his first professional contract in December 2020 and made his first-team debut against FCSB in a 3-0 Conference League Group B victory in Romania in November last year.

Having had a taste of first-team football across this summer’s pre-season tour to Australia, too, Swyer will hope to continue his progress and push for more first-team action as his career develops.

On signing the contract at Rush Green, Swyer said: “It’s immense pride really, having my family with me as well for this is really important. It is such a big moment for me and makes me feel that I have done well over the past two years to get this reward.

“It’s a great feeling to sign that contract and gives me a lot of confidence for the future. But it makes me want to go on and chase the next one too.

I have loved my time here and I am happy to see it continue but I know it is time to kick on again

“There are loads of coaches to thank from my time at Chadwell Heath and the Academy of Football. Kevin Keen really helped me when I was an Under-17 and Under-18 to kick on but through the age groups I have always been supported. I have loved my time here and I am happy to see it continue.

“When I first came here at the age of eight, all I wanted to be was a professional footballer so I have achieved that dream, but I know it is time to kick on again.”

A new contract is a reward for the exciting winger, who pushed on in the 2022/23 season, becoming a senior figure for the U21s and scoring seven goals in 27 appearances in all competitions at that level.

His development and form saw the advanced midfielder earn his first team debut later that campaign, playing the closing 13 minutes as a substitute at FCSB.

David Moyes with Kamarai Swyer

Swyer follows U21s teammate Freddie Potts in signing a new contract this summer and shows that the Club is continuing to invest in the next generation of talent in east London, as Academy Manager Kenny Brown explained.

"We are delighted to see Kamarai Swyer put pen to paper on a new contract with West Ham United," Brown said. "Kamarai has been at the Club since the age of eight and has shown his quality throughout his pathway here at Chadwell Heath.

“After a series of impressive performances for the U21s last season, it was great to see Kam make his senior debut in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

“We are excited to see what comes next for Kamarai. He’s another talented player who has learnt and is now set to continue his football in east London.”

Last season, Swyer was also involved in the matchday squad for the UECL qualifying round second leg against Viborg FF and later took his place as part of the squad to travel for FA Cup clashes against Brentford and Manchester United.

Everyone at West Ham United would like to congratulate Kamarai on signing his new contract and wish him for his future career in Claret and Blue.
