Joseph Anang joins St Patrick’s Athletic on loan for 2022 League of Ireland season

Promising goalkeeper Joseph Anang has completed a loan move to St Patrick’s Athletic until the end of the 2022 League of Ireland season.

Anang joins the Dublin-based club until November 30 2022, following a loan spell with Stevenage in the first half of the 2021/22 English campaign, in which he made 18 appearances in all competitions for the EFL League Two team.

In moving to St Patrick’s Athletic, the 21-year-old will link up with a side looking to build on a highly successful 2021, having claimed second place in the Irish Premier Division as well as winning the 2021 FAI Cup, securing them a place in the UEFA Europa Conference League first qualifying round next season.

St Patrick’s Athletic’s 2022 campaign is set to kick off on Friday 18 February with an away trip to Shelbourne.

The England U20s international will look to continue to gain valuable first team experience in Ireland as he links up with new manager Tim Clancy at Richmond Park.

First-team goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero has been impressed with Anang's development in the last couple of years and says the best thing for his progression is to be playing regularly.

“He needs to play,” Valero said. “He has been to Stevenage in the first part of the season, he has played 18 games, and now he needs to gain more experience.

“He’s been with England U18s and U20s. He’s a good prospect and, at this stage, he’s been through the West Ham U18s and U23s, and the next stage is to go play on loan and prove yourself and keep developing your game and character as a professional goalkeeper.”

Everybody at West Ham United wishes Joseph well for his loan spell with St Patrick’s Athletic.
