Andy Irving has been named in the senior Scotland men’s national team squad for the second time.
The West Ham United midfielder is in former Hammers assistant manager Steve Clarke’s 25-man selection for upcoming friendlies against Iceland and Liechtenstein to be played during the June international window.
The 25-year-old, who received his first senior call-up ahead of UEFA Nations League A Group 1 ties with Croatia and Portugal in October, could win his first caps for the senior side at Hampden Park, Glasgow, where Scotland take on Heimir Hallgrímsson’s Iceland on Friday 6 June at 7.45pm BST.
The Tartan Army then visit Vaduz, Liechtenstein, to face Konrad Fünfstück’s Liechtenstein at Rheinpark Stadion on Monday 9 June at 5pm local time (6pm) BST.
After relegation from Nations League Group A following play-off defeat to Greece in March, the coming games against Iceland in Glasgow and Liechtenstein in Vaduz are the last before Clarke's side start their FIFA World Cup qualification campaign in September, when they will be in a group with Denmark, Greece, and Belarus.
Irving - who was first capped by Scotland at U14 level and has since represented his country at U17, U19 and U21 levels - will be hoping to make the most of his Scotland recall and carry his good form, which has seen him make his full and Premier League debuts for West Ham this season, onto the international stage.
Should he feature, Irving would become the Hammers’ seventh senior Scotland men’s international, following John Dick, Ray Stewart, Frank McAvennie, Christian Dailly, Don Hutchison and Robert Snodgrass.
Everyone at West Ham United would like to congratulate Andy on his Scotland call-up and wish him the best on international duty.
