Anton Ferdinand swapped the football pitch for the baseball diamond on the latest stop of West Ham United’s weekend in New York and New Jersey ahead of the Premier League Summer Series in the United States.
Club ambassador Ferdinand has been in the Metro New York area since Thursday, visiting a school, community soccer club and attending a concert at MetLife Stadium, which will host the Hammers’ Summer Series fixture with Manchester United on 26 July.
On Saturday evening, the former defender was at Citi Field in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park, in the New York City borough of Queens, to attend the New York Mets’ Major League Baseball game against the Chicago Cubs.
Ferdinand watched batting practice before swapping jerseys with Mets infielder Luisangel Acuña. He then took his place in the 41,423 crowd to watch the Cubs hold off the Mets to secure a 6-5 win.
To complete a busy weekend, Ferdinand will join fellow Hammers legend and former teammate Nigel Reo-Coker at Smithfield Hall in New York City on Sunday morning for a watch party with the New York City Hammers for our Premier League clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
