On This Day: West Ham's Boys of '86 produce four-star show to crush Chelsea

West Ham United stunned Stamford Bridge as they ran out 4-0 winners against Chelsea in the First Division on this day in 1986.

Alan Devonshire opened the scoring with an unstoppable 25-yard effort before Tony Cottee scored twice and Frank McAvennie added a fourth to hush the vast majority of the 29,935-strong crowd in the District line derby.

John Lyall’s side were in imperious form in west London as they moved just three points behind league leaders Everton in the First Division table.

Few trips to Chelsea have been more memorable for the Hammers, who would go on to finish third in the 1985/86 season.

You can see all four goals again here!
