Mark Noble and Carlos Tévez both scored their first Premier League goals in a thrilling London derby against Tottenham Hotspur on this day in 2007.
Future Club captain Noble, then just 19-years-old, found the net with a fierce effort on 16 minutes. The Academy graduate was coolly set by teammate Tévez on the edge of the box, striking a low effort through Michael Dawson's legs to give his beloved Irons a deserved lead.
Cult icon Tévez would follow suit towards the end of the first half, netting his first West Ham goal with a sensational free-kick, beating an outstretched Paul Robinson via the underside of the cross-bar.
The striker's delight at scoring his first-ever goal in English football was immediately apparent, pelting across the Boleyn Ground pitch and jumping into the open arms of the roaring West Ham faithful.
West Ham's 2006/07 season had been one of many challenges, with the team facing relegation from the Premier League, and the score-line became level early in the second half following Jermaine Defoe's penalty on 51 minutes and Teemu Tainio's volley on 63 minutes.
Bobby Zamora thought he had earned the Irons a much-needed, and deserved, three points with a superb header on 85 minutes, but Dimitar Berbatov and Paul Stalteri struck late on to break West Ham hearts with a final score-line of 4-3 to the visitors.
Defeat clearly took its toll, with the young Noble visibly emotional as he applauded the home crowd, but the performance was not in vain as it sparked what would become known as 'The Great Escape'.
The Irons would win seven of their remaining nine Premier League games following this match to ensure our place in the top division, ending the campaign in 15th on 41 points.
