On This Day: Hammers avoid Hartlepool banana skin

West Ham United travelled to the north east for their one and only historical meeting with Hartlepool United on this day in 2009, and returned home having avoided slipping on an FA Cup banana skin thanks to a quick fire double on the stroke of half-time.

After 44 goalless minutes, Swiss international Valon Behrami, signed the previous summer from Lazio, broke the deadlock to ease any nerves.

Then, barely a minute later, Mark Noble notched from the spot, giving the visitors a platform of control that they never relinquished.
