Edimilson Fernandes celebrates scoring against Chelsea in October 2016

On This Day: Fernandes dumps Chelsea out of EFL Cup

West Ham United held off the challenge of Chelsea to reach the EFL Cup quarter-finals on an unforgettable night at London Stadium this day in 2016.

A superb Cheikhou Kouyaté header on eleven minutes and a long-range strike from Edimilson Fernandes strike three minutes into the second half put the Hammers in control at London Stadium, with captain Mark Noble providing the assists for both goals.

Gary Cahill scrambled the ball in from close range in added time, but it was not enough to prevent Slaven Bilić's side reaching the last eight and send the Claret and Blue Army home across Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with broad smiles on their faces.
