On This Day: Diamanti and Cole give Birmingham City the Blues

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with Heineken...

Allessandro Diamanti and Carlton Cole were on the scoresheet for West Ham United as they beat Birmingham City 2-0 on this day in 2010.

Diamanti gave the Hammers the lead with an exquisite free-kick just before the break. The playmaker's curling effort left a youthful Joe Hart with no chance in the Blues goal.

The Italian ran to the touchline and celebrated with compatriot and manager Gianfranco Zola, whose position was under pressure with 18th in the table at kick-off.

Cole doubled the advantage in the second period with a low-headed finish to clinch three points and help West Ham rise to 14th in the standings.
