On this Day: Adrián decides FA Cup classic

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, presented by Heineken...

Adrián was the star of an FA Cup third-round replay very few West Ham United supporters will ever forget!

On this day nine years ago, a penalty shootout against the Toffees ended with goalkeeper Adrián throwing his gloves to the ground and knee-sliding in front of the Bobby Moore Stand at Boleyn Ground, having finally seen off Everton after 210 minutes of football.

The Hammers and the Toffees simply could not be separated in January 2015, drawing 2-2 after extra-time following a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park initially in which the hosts had claimed a last-gasp equaliser.

Enner Valencia and Kevin Mirallas had traded goals for West Ham and Everton respectively in normal time, before Carlton Cole scored the Hammers a late equaliser of their own to cancel out Romelu Lukaku’s extra-time strike.

With Everton kicking first in the shootout, Adrián saved from Steven Naismith, watched opposite number Joel Robles crash his kick against the bar... and then converted an emphatic winning penalty kick himself, as Sam Allardyce’s side sealed a place in the fourth round, sparking wild celebrations in east London.
