Cresswell celebrates at Bournemouth

Cresswell: We’ve got great confidence

Aaron Cresswell says there is no reason why West Ham United cannot continue to build momentum over the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

Sunday’s 4-0 win over Bournemouth means the Irons have scored ten goals in their last three games and have lost only once in their last ten outings.

That run has taken his team up to 13th in the Premier League table table and through to the UEFA Europa Conference League semi-finals.

So why stop there? Cresswell believes there is more to come both at home and in Europe.

“It was a massive game on Sunday,” he said. "These next six, seven, eight games, whatever we’ve got left, each one is a final, but today was really important – especially with some of the really tough games we’ve got coming up

“A clean sheet, four goals, you couldn’t ask for any more.

“We’ve got another tough game against Liverpool on Wednesday. They’re a top side with some world class players, but we’re on a roll now with good confidence, especially after today. Why can’t we take the three points against Liverpool?”

Key to West Ham’s success on Sunday was the two goals they scored in the first 12 minutes through Michail Antonio – from Cresswell’s corner – and Paquetá.

Having not scored a single Premier League goal before the 20th minute prior to Sunday’s outing on the south coast, Cresswell was grateful for the timely change.

“We’ve been banging on about making good starts, it’s vital to any game, so scoring in the first five minutes and getting another one seven minutes later was massive,” he continued.

“We had some great finishes, some great performances and it was an all-round good day.

“Over the last ten, eleven games we’ve only lost a couple, we’ve had some great performances in Europe and we’re in a semi-final. There are six, seven games to go in the Premier League and still a lot to play for. We want to reach that final and lift the trophy. Being safe is the focus too and to finish as high up as we can.”

Cresswell, as the Club’s longest-serving player with almost nine years as a Hammer under his belt, would love nothing more than to end this campaign with silverware.

He added: “I’ve been here a long time now, nine years, but whether I’m playing or not I give everything I’ve got for the club. I’m getting towards the back end you could say of my career, but I still love it down here and I’ll keep on giving it all I’ve got.

“We had a great run last year and over the last two years it’s been incredible [in Europe]. I’m sure the West Ham fans would agree with that. We didn’t quite make the final last year, hopefully we can do that this year and lift the trophy. That’s what we all want.”
