Charlton Athletic v West Ham United women's team
Subway® Women's League Cup, Group C, The Valley, Wednesday 24 September 2025, 7pm BST

West Ham United women's team begin their Subway® Women's League Cup journey on Wednesday evening, travelling to Barclays Women's Super League 2 outfit Charlton Athletic.

The Hammers were drawn in Group C of the competition alongside the Addicks, Brighton & Hove Albion, Southampton and Portsmouth.

Rehanne Skinner's side made it to the semi-finals in last season's edition, facing Pompey, the Saints and London City Lionesses in the group stage, before a London-derby victory over Tottenham Hotspur booked our spot in the final four. However, it was eventual winners Chelsea who denied us a place in the showpiece.

The Irons will look to bounce back from Sunday's WSL loss to Brighton & Hove Albion, facing a Charlton team who have accumulated seven points from their opening three league matches of the campaign.

Here's everything you need to know about our Women's League Cup opener...

Opposition...

Charlton Athletic head into Wednesday's cup tie off the back of a goalless draw with newly-promoted Ipswich Town in the BWSL 2 on Sunday, with West Ham loanee Keira Flannery playing the majority of the contest at The Valley.

The midfielder, who is on a season-long loan at the Addicks, is ineligible to face her parent club, but for the Hammers, Tottenham Hotspur loanee Anna Csiki is available for selection.

Charlton's stalemate with the Tractor Girls followed an opening-day victory over Crystal Palace and a come-from-behind win away at Durham.

2024/25 was a positive season for Charlton, who finished third in the standings and six points off league winners London City Lionesses, having lost just three matches all campaign - the same amount as the Pride and second-place Birmingham City.

And after such a positive term, manager Karen Hills, who played for Charlton between 2001 and 2007, was rewarded with a contract extension over the summer.

Hills arrived at The Valley in March 2021 after spending 13 years at Tottenham Hotspur. She oversaw the Lilywhites' transition from playing at amateur level to plying their trade as a professional side in the Barclays Women's Super League.

The 50-year-old won promotion with Spurs from the FA Women's Premier League South in 2016/17 before achieving promotion to the top flight just two seasons later.

After fifth and fourth-place finishes in her first two full seasons in charge of Charlton, Hills' side were one point off promotion to the WSL in 2023/24, finishing narrowly behind rivals Crystal Palace.

In last season's Women's League Cup, Charlton finished without a point in Group E, having faced three top-flight sides in Spurs, Palace and Aston Villa.

Previous Meetings...

The two teams have met on 16 previous occasions, with Charlton winning half of the head-to-head clashes.

The Hammers have beaten the Addicks five times, most recently in the Women's League Cup in October 2023. Coming from behind, we defeated Charlton 2-1 at Chigwell Construction Stadium, with Emma Harries and Izzy Atkinson on target.

We have won our two other meetings with the Addicks in the competition, securing a 2-0 win in December 2018 and a 4-0 success in November 2020.
