Viviane Asseyi has signed a new contract with West Ham United.

The 30-year-old forward has put pen-to-paper on a new deal in east London, committing her future to the Club ahead of the upcoming 2024/25 Barclays Women's Super League campaign.

Asseyi scored seven goals in 26 appearances across all competitions last term, including two superb goals against Chelsea and Manchester United, as well as a penalty in the women’s team’s first ever victory over Arsenal in February.

The France international has played a crucial role since her arrival from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022, and has missed just one fixture in all competitions throughout her time at the Club. To date, she has made 55 appearances, finding the net 13 times.

Asseyi spoke with West Ham TV when signing her new contract, reflecting on the previous season, her aims for the upcoming campaign and how east London feels like home for her.

I feel good and I'm very happy!

Like I always say, I’m good here at West Ham. I’m really happy to sign [a new contract] and stay here!

It can be difficult sometimes for someone coming to the country that isn’t from here to really feel at home, but I really do feel good here. The Club are good with me, the girls are good with me, and I think you can see that I’m happy here, which is another reason as to why I wanted to stay.

It’s my job to score goals because I am a striker, and I’m always happy when I score. I also know that I can do better and that I can do more. I hope that next season, I will do better than I did last season.

I didn’t expect the level of the league when I arrived here. When I wasn’t playing in England, I didn’t watch a lot of the football in this league, but when I arrived, I now say to all my family and friends that this is one of the best leagues in the world right now. I’m really happy and looking forward to be playing in the league again next season.

I think Rehanne [Skinner] did a good job last season, and I’m happy to be continuing my time here playing for her and for the Club.

It’s not easy when you change trainer, and for me, I only came to the Club in the previous year. It wasn’t easy in the beginning, but as time went on, I think we played well and a lot of peopled enjoyed seeing the way that we played.

I love football, so I’m looking forward to be being back in for pre-season.

Of course, I will enjoy my holidays before then, but I’m looking forward to the pre-season, to being back with the girls and enjoying my football.

Football is my work, but also football is part of my life, so I’m excited for when we will be back and working together ahead of the new season.

I’m excited to be back playing in front of the West Ham fans.

You could see in our game against Arsenal at home, their fans pushed, but our fans gave us strength in the game.

Every time we play away, they are there supporting us and they’re with us when we win, lose or draw. We have to say thank you for their support and of course, I hope for them we will be better on the pitch next season.
