West Ham United U23s were beaten 3-1 by Derby County U23s on their return to Premier League 2 action at Loughborough University Stadium on Monday evening.
Goals from Max Bardell and Jack Stretton gave the hosts a comfortable second half lead before Sonny Perkins hit back for the Hammers with his first goal for the development squad.
It was to be in vein, however, as Stretton struck once more with a deflected effort from range that put the result beyond any doubt.
Dmitri Halajko's side return to action on Friday 24 September against Crystal Palace U23s at the Rush Green Stadium. Kick-off is at 7pm.
