Several West Ham United women’s players continued their preparations for the upcoming 2020 summer Olympic games in Tokyo.

The final friendly match before the tournament gets underway in the middle of July took place over the last couple of days.

Adriana Leon featured off the bench for Canada, as they drew 0-0 with Brazil in Cartagena, Spain. It was a tough test for Bev Priestman’s side, but one in which they dominated, having 12 attempts on goal and controlling the possession throughout the match.

This was Canada’s second friendly ahead of the tournament, where they also drew 0-0 against the Czech Republic on Friday.

Leon and Canada will be hoping to find the back of the net more frequently when the tournament gets underway – with them facing off against the host national, Japan, Great Britain and Chile in the group stage.

Australia were also in action – taking on Sweden in their final warm-up match. Tameka Yallop played the opening 45 minutes in the friendly fixture that saw the Matildas draw 0-0 with Sweden. Chelsea’s Sam Kerr had the game’s best chance, rattling the crossbar in the 69th minute, but Yallop and co were ultimately frustrated in Kalmer.

Mackenzie Arnold was an unused substitute.

The two sides will meet again in Group G at the Olympic games, with near neighbours New Zealand and the United States making up the rest of the group.

Dagný Brynjarsdóttir and Iceland were once again in action against Ireland in Laugardalsvöllur, Reykjavík. The 29-year-old midfielder scored in the opening friendly on the 11 June, a 3-2 victory of the Stelpurnar okkar. It was the same end result this time around in the capital, as the home side scored two second half goals to win the game 2-0, with Brynjarsdottir on the field 75 minutes of the contest.

Iceland didn’t qualify for the upcoming Olympic games, with their next international fixture scheduled to take place in September in a World Cup qualifying match against the Netherlands.

The 2020 Olympic Games will take place from the 21 July-6 August and will be shown live on the BBC.
