West Ham United U23s lost 2-1 to Ebbsfleet United in a hotly-contested pre-season friendly at the Kuflink Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Former Leeds United forward Dominic Poleon gave the home side the lead shortly before the break, but the Hammers hit back straight after the restart with a well-placed strike from Nathan Holland.
Despite creating the majority of the second-half chances, Dmitri Halajko’s side were caught cold on the counter late-on with veteran striker Elliot Romain applying a simple finish after positive play from Rakish Bingham.
Next up for the development squad is a trip to Roots Hall on Friday to take on Southend United as the preparations for another season in Premier League 2 Division 1 continue.
