On This Day: Hammers seal FA Cup final spot in dramatic fashion

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with RoadX Tyres...

West Ham United secured their place in the 1980 FA Cup Final with a 2-1 win over Everton in a hotly contested semi-final replay at Elland Road on this day in 1980.

Alan Devonshire opened the scoring for the Hammers with a masterful solo strike, leaving several Toffees’ defenders in his wake before slotting calmly past Martin Hodge.

Everton got themselves back on terms through Bob Latchford’s near post effort and the semi-final duly headed for extra-time.

With 118 minutes on the clock, and the threat of penalties drawing ever closer, the Irons struck. Frank Lampard Snr swooped low and directed his diving header past the flailing Hodge to send the 'Boys in Claret and Blue' to Wembley. The goal itself was memorable enough, but Lampard’s famous jig around the corner provided the icing on the cake!

You can relive both goals above!
