On This Day: Cottee and Brady shoot down Gunners

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with RoadX Tyres...

West Ham United defeated Arsenal 3-1 at the Boleyn Ground in the First Division on this day in 1987.

Tony Cottee put the Hammers in front, controlling Ray Stewart's header and lashing past Rhys Wilmot from six yards.

The Gunners had a great chance to level from the penalty spot after George Parris was adjudged to have fouled David Rocastle, but Tom McAlister made a fine save to deny Martin Hayes.

However, the spot-kick was ordered to be retaken and Hayes was successful the second time of asking, launching the ball into the top right-hand corner to equalise.

Into the second half and Parris was then fouled by Wilmot, and Cottee stepped up and fired home from the penalty spot.

And Irishman Liam Brady completed the scoring with a trademark run and shot from outside the penalty area that arrowed into the bottom right-hand corner.
