David Moyes finalises West Ham United first team coaching staff

David Moyes has finalised his first team coaching staff after signing a new three-year contract at West Ham United, with Billy McKinlay returning to the Club to work alongside the existing team of assistants Kevin Nolan, Paul Nevin, Stuart Pearce and Xavi Valero.

The Club is also pleased to confirm that it is close to appointing a Head of Recruitment.

The manager, his staff and players returned to Rush Green on Friday to begin pre-season training in preparation for the 2021/22 Premier League season and a UEFA Europa League campaign.

Former Dundee United, Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City and Scotland international midfielder McKinlay, 52, returns as an assistant having spent seven months at London Stadium alongside Moyes during his first spell in charge in 2017/18.

McKinlay, a popular and highly-respected coach, had been assistant manager to Michael O’Neil at Stoke City, but has now teamed up again with Moyes, who he previously worked with at Real Sociedad.

Assistants Nolan, Nevin and Pearce, as well as goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero, will continue as integral members of the backroom staff, having all signed new long-term deals alongside the manager.

As previously confirmed, Moyes’ close friend and valued assistant Alan Irvine will also remain with the Club in a new technical advisory role, while Nick Davies returns as part of the fitness and sports science team.

Moyes said: “I’m delighted to welcome back both Billy and Nick. They bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the team, they know the football club well, and they will fit straight back in to how we work.”

The manager is also delighted that the staff he has worked so closely with over the last 18 months have secured their futures.

“It was very important to me that we did this together,” he said. “The progress so far at the Club has been a real team effort and my staff, not just the coaches, have been a crucial part of that. We are looking to continue to build on what we have done so far and we will work to keep our levels high.”
