On This Day: Paolo Di Canio's double gives Chelsea the blues

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, presented by Heineken...

The mercurial talent of Paolo Di Canio inspired West Ham United to a 3-2 precious win at Chelsea on this day in 2002.

The Italian's two goals helped the Hammers secure their first Premier League victory of the season on a dramatic afternoon at Stamford Bridge.

Di Canio produced a stunning volley to put his side ahead at the beginning of the second half, after Jermain Defoe had equalised Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's early penalty.

Future West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola curled Chelsea level with an exquisite free-kick, but Di Canio would not be denied the headlines, scoring West Ham's winner six minutes from the end.
