On This Day: Ageless Teddy Sheringham strikes as West Ham beat Blackburn

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with RoadX Tyres...

Goals from Teddy Sheringham and Hayden Mullins lifted West Ham United out of the Premiership relegation zone with a 2-1 home win over Blackburn Rovers on this day in 2006.

The Hammers had started the 2006/07 season badly, having reached the FA Cup final and finished ninth the previous campaign, so this was a welcome victory for manager Alan Pardew and his players.

Former England forward Sheringham rose superbly to guide home a header from Yossi Benayoun's cross on 21 minutes to become the Premier League's oldest-ever goalscorer at 40.

The game appeared to be settled with ten minutes left when Mullins got a foot to Matthew Etherington's corner to thump the ball past Brad Friedel, but future Hammer David Bentley's goal set up a nervy conclusion at the Boleyn Ground.
